fishermen

busy, busy, busy day. been going since 530 this morning. this morning we had a flight attendant for pen air arrive for the day and night. nice woman. this afternoon we had 6 guys come in from a float and one of them is here for the rest of the wk for guided fishing. when we have this many people being shuttled to and from the river, there is a lot of driving back and forth to the airport and refueling the plane, loading gear, etc. 3 of the men are from denmark..and one of them is a conductor. he has his own chamber orchestra now...interesting guy. there was also a fisheries biologist from anchorage that fly fishes and he tied me a fly to take home to use on bluegill...really nice of him. i also learned how to put together a zodiac raft...completely different from the other rafts we have. took a couple of hrs to figure out. have to clean it all up tomorrow and take it down to the river for use when transporting clients. i'm not super fond of guided fishing people here because i'm required to hang up my gloves and entertain inside. this last weekend it rained the whole weekend and i was inside entertaining as well... had cabin fever bad. i'm very used to working outside all day and i like that. tough to be inside chatting..however these are also the people we get tips from! always a plus to the negative aspect. and i did learn an interesting fact about mosquitos. alaska has 21 different species of mosquitos, and they can actually lay dormant in the ground for 20 yrs until the time is right for them to come out. yuck. plus, one mosquito will lay up to 10,000 eggs at time...that's what i was told anyway. no wonder they are the state bird.
