Crazy Alaskan Weather
what a day! when i got up this am to do my morning jog loop, it was a sunny, but chilly 25. Brrr..the weather today was crazy. i guess there is a saying that goes, "if you don't like the weather in alaska, wait 2 mins..it'll change". (sounds like something a kansan would say). thats the truth. it was a very chilly morning working outside. windy and cold, and of course it clouded up. today consisted of small daily chores, plus picking up twigs/sticks in the yard, raking leaves, sweeping the roof on the bunkhouse. climbed a ladder up there but b cuz its a tin roof, you can only step on the screws which are approx 1 and half ft apart..makes it interesting holding a broom longer than me. and when i was up there, it started raining. good times. also raked the yard, quite a chore..big yard. and seriously every 2-5 min the weather changed. at one point i had on just my work clothes and sunglasses, and within 2 min i had a hat, gloves, coat all bundled up and raining, to the next min sunny but windy, then hail, rain, etc, etc. all afternoon it was like this. and now that im done with my work for the day, its sunny. that seems to be the norm. it warms up about 6pm and gets sunny. nat and i made another dump run, post office and store. and my fav chore of the day (haha) was raking up rocks that had fallen off the drive into the ditch along the drive. this took forever. and i was pulling the rocks up towards me. i seriously pulled prob 75 lbs of rocks. and because the weather was just grand today, it started hailing on me while doing this lovely chore. whats hilarious about raking leaves, twigs and rocks is that the lodge doesn't own a wheel-barrow, so i get to use this bright orange little kid pull sled to put it all in and drag it around the yard with a string. i took pics. can you imagine driving by seeing a grown woman dragging around a little orange sled filled with rocks and twigs? makes me laugh out loud. really it makes me want to give my boss the long finger, because he wouldn't be caught dead doing that..but its ok for me apparently. anyway! nat made caribou hamburgers tonite - very, very good.

Tell your boss he needs a little Red Ranger Super Glide wagon with side rails. That would spruce up the place. Maybe one of the kids in the burg has one he or she will loan you. Who knows?
I bet they ban Johhny Horton's 1961 song "Way Up North to Alaska", huh... Is there radio - other than satelite XM, or Dish TV ?
700 miles to the closest thing that resembles a city with broadcasting capablities is quite a stretch, even if it is uphill.
Oh, Liz - you make me laugh. And YOU will laugh SOMEDAY, too, just not soon. I'm guessing guests bring their own fly fishing equipment?? I'm anxious to hear about the guests - bet they're not pretty (miners, right). Thanks for the pics - can't quite make out who your walking "friend" was.

It can't be all bad, A good friend's older brother moved up there right after college and has been a Game Warden for over 20 years, actually he moved from the Artic Circle to Alaska in the last few years.
A big change for s Sedgwick home town boy! ( I think you can relate) Now, I know his family from KS has been there for the cold fun family events and dog sledding events.
Thinking of you and sorry your going to miss the family reunion.
We are headed to the sunny beaches and warmer temps. We will keep in touch. Cindy
